TELL ME! "EMERGENCY"

Any child can find him or herself unexpectedly in an emergency situation. A biking or swimming accident can happen at any time! In a busy shopping centre parents can easily lose sight of their child. Children can get involved in emergencies for various reasons. Sometimes they are caused by the children themselves, due to overestimating their own abilities, not paying attention, childish curiosity or the urge to find out how things work. But often emergencies arise from circumstances beyond their control – as when a lift stops working, or a child is approached by a stranger, or a fire breaks out. What should they do in these situations? What action should they take? And who can help?

Children not only have to rely on help during an emergency – they need support before an emergency occurs. Parents and teachers can, and should, ensure that children are well
prepared for the dangers of an emergency. In safe role-play and a familiar environment, children learn to understand and cope with these situations, and can deduce the right way to act in real emergencies. Good preparation is the key to healthy self-confidence and strong, safety-oriented children.
